Washington School is a small elementary school which houses the district's preschool special education programs.  We currently offer two half-day preschool disabled classes and a full-day program for students with global delays.

The two half-day preschool disabled classes focus on growth-enhancing experiences structured around environmentally meaningful stimuli.  Developmentally appropriate activities within a structured environment facilitate the growth of our students.  Creative Curriculum, a New Jersey state approved curriculum, is being implemented. Occupational, physical, as well as speech and language therapies are provided in accordance with each student’s IEP.  Behavioral intervention strategies are utilized with the support of the district behaviorist. The children interact in various activities with their typically developing peers from the CommunitySchool, which is located on the same campus.  Activities such as music, art, and gym are taught by certified teachers in those disciplines.

Our full-day program is modeled in the methodologies and philosophy of applied behavioral analysis.  All of the students engage in applied behavioral analysis programs within the classroom setting.  The focus of the class is to prepare these children for transition into the elementary programs within the district.  All students also receive related services as per their IEPs.  The children interact in various activities with their typically developing peers from the CommunitySchool which is located on the same campus.  Activities such as music, art, and gym are taught by certified teachers in those disciplines.
