JUMP FOR HEART- In observance of Heart Health Month in February, we held our annual Jump Rope for Heart event, organized by Mrs. Kenny and Mr. Rogers. In addition to raising over $1,000 for the American Heart Association, the students engaged in various activities while learning to keep their heart strong and healthy. Click here for photos.
SIXTH GRADE GLOBAL WARMING PROJECTS- Temperatures around the world are increasing. Polar ice caps are melting. Carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are rising. These are all effects of global warming, one of the ways in which humans negatively interact with their environments. During a multi-week, problem-based learning (PBL) activity, students in Miss Chappell’s science classes explored effects of global warming on our environment and identified practical ways to improve this situation. ENGINEERING is ELEMENTARY- Recently, Mrs. Crowley and Mr. Malyso’s fifth graders learned about engineering by engaging in hands-on activities through the Engineering is Elementary (EiE) curriculum. Both classes participated in group activities and applied problem solving skills to design and build a bridge with Mr. Malyso and design and test a sail with Mrs. Crowley. Click here for photos.
FIFTH GRADE WAX MUSEUM- For the fourth consecutive year, magic museum moments were made by Mrs. Crowley and Mr. Malyso’s fifth graders. The classes visited Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in NYC in November, to kick off their projects. The students then “performed” their projects at their Museum Opening Night on Tuesday, February 9.
