HoHoKus School at Bergen Regional Medical Center - shared time high school program will be offering the Home Health Program for students who start our program in February 2011 and for seniors who will be starting our program in September of 2011. This course will not be on the schedule for this specific group of students. It will be the same course that was offered in the fall of 2010 leading to certification by the NJ Board of Nursing as a Licensed Home Health Aide and will inlcude the 6 credits of Math and Science. FELICIAN COLLEGE INSTANT DECISION DAY IN SADDLE BROOK HIGH SCHOOL - DEC. 9 - 8AM - SIGN UP IN GUIDANCE
NEW JERSEY SHOUT DOWN DRUGS - 2011 High School Music Competition- Create original music and lyrics with powerful substance abuse prevention messages. County winners will perform in May at the NJPAC for prizes worth $2,000 to $5,000. Come to guidance for additional information. Deadline 1/14/11.
GIRLS GOING PLACES - Sponsored by the Guardian Life Insurance Co., this competition is designed to support young women with their entrepreneurial endeavors. If you have set up a business, you qualify to apply for this contest. Prizes totalling $30,000 will be awarded to the top 15 finalists. Come to Guidance for additional information. The deadline is February 28th, 2011.
UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE & DENTISTRY OF NJ PRE-MEDICAL HONORS PROGRAM - If you plan to pursue a career in the medical field, please come to Guidance and learn about a wonderful opportunity to attend this program. The classes take place on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the Medical Sciences building of our Newark campus. You will be able to sit in on classes including Training Physicians for Tomorrow, The Neurological Examination, From Vein to Vein, Stem Cells, The Diabetic Foot, etc. and you will be given tours of the clinical cepts., pathology labs, and the Emergency Dept. of the University Hospital. This is a GREAT opportunity and we hope you will take advantage of it. The cost is $125 and applications are available in guidance.
NATIONAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP FORUM ON MEDICINE - This is another outstanding program which actually runs in the summer months and emerses you in the field of medicine. Grace Mathew, a 2009 SBHS graduate, attended this forum and Frank Daniello, Class of 2007, attended the forum on law. You are actually housed on college campuses for a 10-day extensive program which may enlighten you as to which medical field you would like to pursue. You should submit your name to Mrs. Brodt, in the Guidance Office, as soon as possible so that we can forward it to the Forum for consideration..
